public blogging vs. private journaling

I’ve neglected my blog long enough.   I’ve decided to try to write regularly.  I want to do this for me.

To be honest, I want to be a writer.

Maybe I’ll write a kid’s book, or one that combines my two favorite things, quotes and photos.  I have an idea that makes me excited every single time I think about it.
Right now I’m focusing on my photography business, but I hope one day I can check it off my life’s list of things to do before I’m gone.

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about why I neglect this blog, and the biggest reason is because I’m old-fashioned.  I normally use the pen and paper method.  I have a beautiful journal that I write in regularly.  Well, it’s actually a sketchbook for artists, but it was so beautiful, blank and had the quote “Choose your own Adventure” on the cover that it drew me in.  It also didn’t hurt that my old journal I purchased  in 2006 was almost full.  It’s easy for me to write in my private journal, unlike here.

 I tried to write a blog post a few nights ago at a public coffee shop.  I told myself I’d take my private journal along, and post an old journal entry.  I thought it would be easy, but when I opened my journal, I felt like my soul was pouring out and anyone could lean over and see my inner most thoughts.  I quickly shut my journal and told myself I’d never do that again!  I felt like I flashed the room by opening my journal.

My private journal is my safe place.  The place where there’s no judgement and no way to be misunderstood.  My inner most thoughts and secrets are well kept.  And there’s no editing!  I just pour it out… no brainstorming.  Noone there to ask questions.
It’s nice.  I highly recommend getting a private journal if you don’t have one.

The cool thing about blogging is I get to say what I want to the world, even if the world doesn’t like it or agree.  It’s a window into my heart.  It’s a way to share another piece of me with my family, friends and strangers.  It’s a way to meet some awesome new people, like Jennie who I met when we were both 16 on opendiary.  She’s still an awesome friend of mine, and now we share a passion of photography.  And in the blogging world, sometimes you get support from a kind stranger, which can come as an unexpected surprise and makes you remember the world is a good place, filled with kind-hearted people.

So come back and check out my blog, I plan on making it more active.  And who knows, maybe I’ll share some entries from my private world.  Maybe ;)
